Making the most of your off season - Where am I and where do I want to be?

Where am I and where do I want to be?

We have spoken about goal setting before and how effective it can be. The off season can provide a great chance for reflection. You can take stock of the progress you did or didn’t make on the course, finally getting to that handicap you were chasing or playing more rounds than you ever have…. Note that your mind probably goes to the negatives, really try and pick 3 positive accomplishments from your last year of golf. Feel better? Good!

Now what’s next? And how do you get there?

Start by setting some goals:

Cut my handicap by…

Gain … club head speed

Play … more rounds

Whatever they are make sure they are really true and what you want to achieve. Now from there what we like to do with our clients at Macro is reverse engineer them, what will it take to get there and then we help formulate a plan, step by step to achieve them.

So, let’s take gaining distance as a goal. What physically can we do to help provide a base for that in the gym. How many sessions a week are realistic? What weakness or areas do we need to focus on? Do we need to analysis nutrition?

From there we can start plotting out a plan for gym work, nutrition, practice etc..

Another way is looking at the habits of the goal you are trying to achieve; a 5.0 HCP.

How often do they practice? How do they practice? What are their nutritional habits? Do they go to the gym?

If you can find out these answers just start copying them and quickly you will start to see improvements.

If you are looking to get your off-season kick started feel free to drop us a message.

It just starts with a goal, then a plan, then follow and see what you can achieve.
